Welcome to Finnegan’s Quilts
This photo was the day we adopted Finnegan. I am Millie his mom and a long with my husband Jeff his dad the 3 of us make up the Finnegan’s Quilts. I’m the person behind all the long arm work here at Finnegan’s Quilts. You will also find me working as a full-time real estate agent in the western suburbs of Chicago Illinois. I love that both my businesses allow me the flexibility to run both very effectively. Jeff and Finnegan are always available for moral support when it’s needed. Sometime you might even find Finnegan under my long arm when I am piecing a quilt top, yes, he has a bed in my quilting studio too.
How did we pick out the name of our business? Well, it was easy, Finnegan is a dog that needs to keep his eye on me or be involved in everything I do. So, to me there is not anything comfier and cozier than a quilt and a dog wanting to lay by your side, so Finnegan’s Quilts was born.
Why we do this
I’ve been sewing since I was little girl. My first sewing machine was a barbie sewing machine that used some type of glue product I got for Christmas. The excitement of learning to sew in 6th grade was the best thing EVER! I remember that pink bunny pillow with the white pom pom ball tail. At 16 I got my first Singer sewing machine in a cabinet and away I went. That was the machine I used until 2002 when I purchased a Janome Memory Craft sewing machine with embroidery software. You name it and I embroidered it. As life went on my machine would only come out for smaller projects. Well, that was until March of 2023 when I had to have extensive hand and elbow surgery on my left side. Yes, I’m left-handed too. The need to speed up my recovery was top of mind and ideas were tossed around to help. Pulling out that sewing machine rose to the top! Now I had a reason to sew and I wanted to learn how to quilt. I have a sister-in-law who’s a great quilter and the idea of the common passion was exciting. My first quilting class was in May of 2023 at Creative Sewing and Quilting in Geneva IL and as they say the rest is history.
